So, it’s been a minute. Before coming to Senegal I said I would try to post here monthly, but that goal has kind of gone out the window. Anyone that has been messaging me or follows me on social media is sort of up to date on how things have been going here; but, now that I’m at my permanent site and it’s the new year I’m going to try and work this into my routine.
To get everyone up-to-date, from mid-September to early December I participated in Pre-Service Training (PST) and I’ve been at my permanent site in the north of Senegal for about three weeks. During PST I lived in the Thiès region and was trained on things like basic gardening, Senegalese culture, and my local language, Pulaar du Nord. I’ll write up a post dedicated to PST and my time in Thiès soon, it was a packed few months.
I like I said earlier, I’ve been at my permanent site in the Saint Louis region for three weeks now. During my first few months here, my main tasks are to practice Pulaar du Nord, to integrate into my community, and to get to know my town’s problems. There have definitely been ups and downs, no surprise moving to a completely different county is hard. Overall though, things have been great. It’s been amazing to get to know my family and the people I’ll be spending the next two years with. I’ve also had the chance to get a glimpse into what my work might look like once I’m able to actually get it started. I think that’s where I’ll leave it for now, more to come (hopefully in less than three months). Before going though, here are some pictures from the past little while.
